I have now started my new go kart project after looking around for a go kart (electric) for my oldest son I have decided to build one, started to look round at kits and ride on and eventually settled on a Grasshopper. This is based upon a lotus 7 / caterham 7 The full sized version Called a locust locust there is not a lot of information About the grasshopper you can order the plans on line and some of the the parts but I went the route of doing my own plans and modelling it on a cat7
So I have a long list of stuff I need to get, and work out how to do on a budget should be fun. Here is the link for the grasshopper

About a month a go I was having a tidy out of my hide a way the wide calls it the garage. I filled the car up and when to the local dump, after sitting in the usual traffic to just get in I was a but fed up, so I emptied the car and engaged in the usual smile at the other guys throwing a way the in finished projects I was passing a large 4x4 in in the back was a old unhappy looking power, so I made eye contact with the owner and asked if you are throwing that could I have it. To my delight he said her no problems so with a grin I legged it to my car and loaded it. After getting it home and the wife pulling that face I pulled it a part and cleaned it up and the set about testing the electrics to my suprised it worked both motors and gear boxes worked fine. So after an upgrade to 12v it moves about 12mph from the 6v 4mph

POWERTECH 6VOLT ride on Electric Go Kart
After some thinking I decided to test the water with my son, (not literally) as much as I want a go kart to play with I think getting my son started it beats a games console and I can have some fun in with him. The reason for the Electric Go Kart is as much as people say he
(My son) is the spitting image of me he is not me so I have got a small electric 6 volt Go kart from EBay about £30 for his birthday so I shall see how things go
Whilst researching the Kart I found a web site on mudding this looks a lot of fun.

What I have is a POWERTECH 6VOLT ride on Electric Go Kart I shall add photos later but there is a fella with a 36V 18MPH that speed with a 4 year old in it my god im going to be divorced soon ill keep posting :)

Project Mini Lotus 7
Hi
This is the 1st time I have posted here on my blog I haven’t had anything to blog but now i have something worthy of blogging I think.
What I have decided is that I am going to make my son a Lotus 7 Replica in ½ ish scale at the time it was 5 in the morning and a long night shift.
I found something called a Grasshopper. It’s a Locust 7 (lotus 7 to the guy off the street) Locust has a small kit for kids to get them interested in mothering. I like this being in to cars, I had a BMW3 series E30 loved it but it had to go due to time and kids problems love the horrors so because I cannot afford nor have the yes from the boss (my wife)
I’m going to build a Grasshopper Replica
Yes a Replica of a replica i now it sounds strange but I have reasons for this mainly size money and have to fit in the family car with seats down.
After some time researching this I have discovered it is not an easy project by fare mainly as the web page had 1999 prices on it so it’s not going to be cheap kit any more
Let me just tell you that I got the crazy idea from looking for a pedal car on EBay. I wanted a cool looking car electric or pedal as I was searching I found some that looked ok and one that I could mod I like this the I came across a lotus 7 for £65 and I not being allowed one because of price thought it so CHEAP mu god a lotus 7 well I clicked on the son a B***** and lo and behold it was a kids car well I am about 5’10” and 14 odd stone ill crush it the my son spring to mind ill get it for him i emailed a way with How much buy it now got a NO I am letting ride so i watched and £160 later i have nothing as i lost it gutted so this is where the night shift came in i set about the research and came up a blank on most searched un till i got the locust page and that was it all i had and have now
Or though no I have 20 odd paged of full size specs I’m going to re work it to about ½ size a bit smaller than the grass hopper. I am doing all the plans and drawing myself based around a lotus 7 mainly for me boy
The only information I have is an eBay listing that finished on the 31/10/09 and a heavy amount of Goggling I found the Locust owners web site. It has 3 dimensions for the car height with and length, Ok a good starting point.
so I set to work looking at the size and how much it was going to cost then it struck me because the car is too long at 1.8 meter for my own car and that I would actually like to build one from the ground up by no means am I saying to follow in my footsteps the Grasshopper is a fantastic car and kit I just want to build one I like a challenge
I have my own philosophy is: if someone made it, I can take it apart and
Well that me and my blog ill keep it up dated and I am happy to answer any questions
